2964 - Chrome stuff

Well I should have posted this yesterday along with the other techy stuff. But I just found out a few things about Google Chrome.

Chrome users. You know when you go to a news page and suddenly there is audio coming from somewhere. You have to scroll up and down the page to find it and turn it off. Or not find it at all. Don't you wish there was a way to turn off the sound off on that tab? ....... THERE IS!

Instead of entering a URL, type  chrome://flags . Then scroll down to a line called Enable tab audio muting UI control.  It's about 80% of the way down the page. You will see a line that says 'enable'. Click it. It will change to 'disable'.

Now close all your tabs and reopen Chrome. Start a music video for a test. A little speaker shows up on the tab when that tab is generating any sound. Click the speaker. Tab sound is off! Click it again. Back on!

Now when that mystery sound comes on you can zap it without looking for it.

Trick number 2: Right click the tab bar not on a tab (to the right). An option box pops up. The box has a task manager option. This is not the system task manager. It's a Chrome task manager. You can see what is running in Chrome and if you are having a problem with a particular tab, shut just that tab down from this task manager.

Then if you really want to delve into neat geeky stuff, put chrome://about in the URL bar. Then start geeking.

Thanks, that is a great tip, especially early in the morning when many of us don't want a musical accompaniment!

I will never be as techy as you, my friend. But thanks for the tip. I keep the Geek Squad on speed dial. Best contract I've ever had.

Well I see the links don't work without an http in front of them. You'll have to type in chrome://flags yourself.
