Well here it is Memorial day. A friend sent out an email about where taps came from. So being me, I checked it out. On Wikipedia of course. As it turns out, he sent out a rumor and not the official version of the story of how taps came about.

"Taps" originates from the Dutch term 'taptoe', meaning "close the (beer) taps (and send the troops back to camp)".
