5178 - Flag day

I usually forget about flag day until I see a post about it. I'll be the reminder post this year.

So this poster was from 1917. Add 100 is 240 years in 2017. 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 is 244 years. Did I get that right?

  1. I don't think we have a flag day - or if we do it passes me by. Every year.

  2. Flag Day was a big deal when I was growing up in the 1950s and early 60's. It lost appeal during the Vietnam War era and never quite picked up steam again. Sadly, nowadays I'm reluctant to fly my flag most days because it's been hijacked by the extreme right as a symbol of ostentatious faux patriotism rather than true love of country and recognition of the rights and freedoms we enjoy.

  3. Bill - I know exactly what you mean.

Kathy - You're welcome or no problem depending on how old you are.

Deb - Ross is da boss.

  5. I looked. None of the 91 municipalities in the St. Louis area had one. A lot of rural Missouri towns did. So flag day parades must be a small town thing.
