5602 - Clocks

Redundant clock.

I wonder if this ever shows 18, 18, 18?

This clock is to the 9s.

This is a round square root clock.

I thought this was a clock at first. Then I started doing a little math in my head. It's not a clock.

The numbers are there if you look hard enough, (And you're not color blind)

This is an interesting clock. It just spells out the hours.

From the Vimeo site... "This movie shows a clock designed by Christiaan Postma that consists of more than 150 synchronized clock mechanisms, which rotate metal bars that briefly align to spell the appropriate time."

  1. I love the clock that spells out the hours, I watched as the bars moved into place. I don't understand the Pi clock.

  2. Clever, but I am unsurprised that they haven't caught on.

  4. I have gotten to the point in my retired life where I only care about making my tee time. Other than that I could care less what time it is. I eat when I get hungry and sleep when I get tired.

  5. I'm with Ol' Simmons ... when you're retired, it's always who-cares o'clock.

  6. Time?
    Time to eat,
    Time for a drink (It's 5 o'clock somewhere),
    Time for a cigar,
    Time for bed.
Who needs a clock for these?

  8. River - I don't know what's going on with the pi clock (if it is a clock) either.

Sue - There were lots more that you had to really study to figure out the time.

Stu - Those were two I didn't see when looking for a few more. I liked the pencil!

Simmons - That's pretty much my lifestyle also these days.

Bill - Hmmmm, no color blind comment. That must have gone down on your list of 'give a poop'.

Deb - Was it you that had mentioned clocks before? I knew someone did.

John - Don't forget pie time. It's always pie time.

Shaw - Are you still trying to figure out the pi clock? Good luck!

  9. In the domino clock the left one is the hours and the right two show the minutes.
    Your photo thus shows 12:59.

    Thus it cannot show 18:18:18

    Capisto?

  10. Stu - I assumed those are displays with 9 dots in each square. We know there is at least one middle dot from the two on the right. I'm guessing that whoever design the display made all 9 dots available.

And I always heard it as 'Capish'. I think from the movies more than in real life.

  11. These are cool, especially the last one. I can't see the numbers in the coloured dots one but I never thought I was colourblind. Weird!

  12. Jenny - I think the dots clock only has 12, 3, 6, and 9 on it.

  13. Aha! Now I can see them! I'm cured, I'M CURED!! (Thanks for the hint)

  14. Very cool post! First one like this I've ever run across. Who knew clocks could be so interesting.

  15. Martha - There are a lot more out there that it would be hard to recognize them as clocks.

  16. Fun little exercises in math and engineering. I can admire them. Uncomprehendingly

  17. Cloudia - If you figure out the pi clock, you win a prize.

  18. Lady - I'm glad I didn't have to figure out how to synchronize all those mechanisms.
