5644 - Crazy blogger

It seems there are still some people having trouble with Blogger. Missing comments, comments going to spam jail, can't comment on another blog, etc. etc.

That said here's a partial problem I've had for a while. I should get an email notification when someone comments. For some people, I don't (N). Most people I do. (Y) Here's a list. Someone may not be on this list if you haven't commented in the last few weeks or if I forgot to add you to the list.

Sue Y
Deb Y
John Y
Simmons Y
John Y
Anon Y
Kirk Y
Cloudia Y
Stu Y
Sami Y
Jenny Y
Allen Y
Martha Y
Adam Y
Shirley Y
Lady Y
Dellgirl Y
Matt Y
Dawn Y
Amy Y

Shaw N
River N
Bill N
Kathy N
Peggy N

What does this mean? Well for the post of the day not much because I check the comments often, sort of. But for the N people, if you go back to an older post, I won't get any notification about it. I try to make a point to look at the comments on posts at least 3 or 4 days old looking for the N people. But I've had people go back a week and comment. I obviously see the Y people comments.

So you N people need to get together and figure out why I don't get emails from your comments. I'll be waiting with bated breath.

I spelled "bated" wrong and smartass spellchecker knew it...
"bated" - Eagerly or anxiously, as in We waited for the announcement of the winner with bated breath. This expression literally means “holding one's breath” (bate means “restrain”).

  1. Instead of harassing you about an old post I would be more than happy for blogger to start cleaning up their own yard. My reading list is a problem at the moment. It is quite often 'gone' and when it reappears blogs that have recently posted are out of order. And commenting on some blogs can be hit and miss.
One blog demands that I sign in with Google - and then refuses to let me. Other blogs make the same demand and allow it.
And, which I think is adding insult to injury, I cannot give blogger any feedback at the moment. When I try, it smugly tells me it cannot process my request.
    Hiss and spit.

  2. Driving down to Georgia this morning (from Indiana) for a mini West Point reunion (47 years)...mostly golf and old Army stories, probably won't read anything until I get back next week...so I'll comment later. Y'all take care.

  3. Sue - I've never used a reader. I just keep an eye on my blog list and since I have it set up to put the newest post at the top I... oh wait, it doesn't always do that. Sometimes posts don't show up on my list hours later. Peggy is one that can show up 10 hours after she posted. Kathy is usually 2 to 3 hours late.

Simmons - Have a great time. I got the notification email!

  4. I'm finding out that I have to check the post publication time. The default setting used to be set to automatic, but lately it seems to be stuck on the 'set date and time' option (which can be several hours earlier).

  5. Kathy - I always (mostly) set my post up the night before so I use the date and time setting.

  6. Geeee-WhiZZZZZ!!! Seems like the older I get, the more complicated life gets! So frustrating. 10 years ago, I used to patiently try to figure things like this out. NO MORE! "Now-days" I just click away (exit) and go get something to eat.

Wishing you well, my friend! Have a wonderful week!

  7. Lady - You are now and you are a Y!

  8. DG - But that's half the fun of computers. Figuring out what's messed up.

  9. Am I on the nice or naughty list, Mike? Or is this your way of trying to get rid of me?

  10. I didn't click the box for email notifications, so I don't get them, because it's silly to get emails when I check all the blogs daily anyway. I don't know how to make sure you get email notifications, isn't that something you have to choose when you leave a comment? I'll make a note not to leave comments at old posts.

  11. Matt - Actually, Blogger is trying to get rid of you. Your comment went to spam jail. Had I not gotten an email notification I wouldn't have known about it.

River - This is about the email I get when you leave a comment on my blog. As you can see, I get an email notification from most people. Why the four of you don't generate an email to me is unknown. I'm having Kathy try something to see if a little trick might work. We'll see.

  12. I never get E-Mailed notifications of Comments so I usually just check back in my Comments section and see all of the most recent Comments to any Post, whether Archived or not. The Grandson showed me how to use the Comments Feature on my Stats so that I wouldn't miss anyone dropping by and so far
Blogger hasn't managed to cock that up... yet. *LOL* They do a fine job of cocking things up tho', just when we figure out how to use a function, they enhance it or mess with it and then it's the fun and games of figuring out how to retrieve data that now is missing, or be able to use functions that previously gave us no problems.

  13. Dawn - You're not in the N group. I know there are different ways to handle comments. One way to check them is to click on design and then comments. Then click the down arrow to see if any have been put in spam jail.

  14. Cloudia - I'm going to figure this out if it kills me... or I get bored with it.

  15. It's funny that you left me a comment saying you thought you'd left me a comment considering the topic of this post. I don't know. Blogger keeps doing weird things to me, too.

  16. Ami - Well, you're on the Y list. I got the notification email for this comment.

  17. I am in neither group so I guess I'm in the cloud.

  18. Peg - It's been a little while since you've commented and I didn't want to guess. And Now I don't have to. You are in the N group. I found this comment by coming back and double-checking this post.

  19. There seem to be more problems with Blogger lately than ever before. Makes me wonder if they're actively trying to drive people away instead of just being adult about it and telling us they're shutting it down! After all, it's free, so we don't really have a case to demand they fix it.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Jenny - Since we are their product you would think they would treat us a little nicer.

  21. A lot of issues with blogger lately. Not sure what they're working on in the background but it sure is causing problems. I also don't get email notifications for a few comments. And unless I log in and check, they never get noticed.

  22. Martha - "I also don't get email notifications for a few comments." Interesting. Are any of them on my N list?
