So much for B&B. (not bed and breakfast) Now I'm going to bore you to death with and article from New Scientist about the brain. Something our last president didn't ha.... oh wait, we're not supposed to pick on him anymore are we? I'll stop as soon as my 401K comes back up. Anyway, here's a couple of days coming up about the brain.

If you don't form memories of language-specific sounds during the first year of life, the ability to recognise them may all but vanish, and learning becomes much more difficult.
I agree 100%.
Scoot was non-verbal until he was around 4 yrs old. Then one word "statements" for the next few years.
Echolia kicking in around the same time.
Now at 13 he is still learning language and for him it's like learning Algebra or Science...hard!
There's a "critical age" range for learning languages that lasts until about age 7...in that range, most children acquire languages fairly easily, which has led some linguists to believe that a facility for language is "hard-wired" into our brains. Anyone can learn a language with enough effort, but it's a whole lot easier when you're young. Our former president seems to have acquired English in his early 30's.
