879 - Where?

A little town in Austria, that's where.

There's a Wikipedia article on it.

I found it on Google Earth. 48d04m01.85s N 12d51m44.73s E
Here's a bit from Google Earth - Tarsdorf is a municipality in the district Braunau am Inn in Upper Austria, Austria. As of 2001 it has 1,938 inhabitants. It is most famous for the village in it named Fucking.

Here are some questions from a friend that sent me this.
Are the residents called Fuckers?
What are the mothers called?
What would you be learning at the Fucking High School?
Does the Fucking Hospital help you with anything else?
If your friend came from here, would he be your Fucking friend?

And then there is this sign when you leave town. Just so you know there is no more .... you know.

Maybe I can get some hits today with this Fucking post.

Those of us who have experience living in Germany know all about this luckless town. Another subject of many hilarious vacation photos are cars registered in the town of Furth...German license plates combine the letters of the town name (in this case, FU) with two randomly-selected letters and a number. Thus, many hapless German motorists in Furth have license plates like FU-CK-0179. It's only hilarious the first ten million times you see it.

How did this town get it's name?
The word has to mean something else in German.

B - I should have known you would have known all about ..... you know.

LA - EXACTLY!

M - first time I'd seen this.

A - Me either.

B - If I remember correctly I think all the people that came to the US who's names ended with K changed them to H. Because Fuch is how it's prononced in German. Bilbo, comments?

It's true that the German pronunciation is "fook" (more or less pronounced like "look"), but I don't know if the story about changing proper names from "F**k" to "Fuch" is correct. I personally doubt it, because a common German name is actually "Fuchs," which means "Fox." Your guess is as good as mine.
