Here's a Frontline show on the beginnings of Christianity. The clip below is just the first of 12. If you get interested in it, below that is the link to all of the chapters. This is an interesting take on how it took Christianity 300 years to get off the ground and get going. It's about 4 hours total. Think of it as Sunday school for the whole month of October.

I think most of our televangelists and holier-than-thou, "I'm such a perfect Christian" people should probably watch this. They always seem to be so ill informed about Christianity.
