Well the idiot Representative Ryan from Wisconsin wants to give everyone vouchers for medicare. That would work real good wouldn't it? Can you see a 65 year old trying to get medical insurance on the open market with a government voucher? How much is this voucher going to be worth? I think about 10 grand a month ought to cover it.
I watched a Frontline show on Netflix the other night called "Sick around the world". It's a reporter that visits other countries to see how their government run health systems work. All in all it seems like the other systems work just fine. There will always be small problems that irritate some people but you can never get away from that.
I would put a link here but Frontline doesn't post their shows. So your best bet is to catch it on PBS or watch it on Netflix.
I hadn't heard about this until now.

I've been happy with my experiences with the medical system here so far. If anything, they seem to be overly generous sometimes....I'd better not say that too loudly...
My husband and I lost our corporate jobs within 6 months of one another. yes, we made bucket loads of money so no one felt badly for us including us thinking we'd be fine. But we were old, no one would hire us. So dipping into the savings we go.....go...gone. Cobra - gone. Then we got our own insurance. 1200 a month for 2 folks of 50 with some medication. 1for thyroid and 1 for seasonal allergies. no big deal right? Wrong. AFter 1 yr our premiums went up to 1500 a year. This was for 2500.00 deductible per person. (blue cross) We began shopping and the best we could do was 1000 a month to pay and 5000K annual deductible pp. Well we don't spend 10K a year now so why get this? Then Blue Cross got wind that now my husband had high blood pressure and wanted info from doctor. No his cholesteral was perfect, no he didn't need to lose weight. They didn't understand it either but they jacked up our insurance to $1800 a month. Then in 2010 we got a letter saying that blue cross was going to have an increase across the board of up to 48%!! WTF? We began shopping again but we kept being told we were over 50 and with our medication for hi-blood pressure and thryoid we could never find anything for less. So what would we do if we were seriously ill? Just die? it is cheaper I suppose. We started our own business during this time and this 1800/month was killing us some months. So we went without insurance. We had to. A voucher would not help me. Unless I move to Canada or another country I am screwed every which way.
And to me Canada is looking good about now...especially if the asshats of Trump or Palin get in office. God save America
my story is much like Margaret's story and she said it all so well
A - Shhhhhhhhhhh
M - I think there's going to be more stories like yours before things get better. And that's IF they get better.
D - Agreed
Have you seen Extreme Couponing? Maybe we can make this work for us. Of course we'd wind up having to stockpile medical supplies but hey...
LET - These days it's whatever works!
