The Science of Why We Don't Believe Science - Mother Jones
I ran across an article today about why we believe what we do and how some people might not be convinced otherwise. I'm not sure if I believe this (If you know what I mean).

I know what I know and no one knows what I know better than what I know now. I think. Anyway the guy that wrote the article wrote some books so he obviously knows stuff.
people respond to scientific or technical evidence in ways that justify their preexisting beliefs
I believe..... whatever it takes to get along with other people that believe the same thing I believe.
And sure enough, one key predictor of whether you accept the science of global warming is whether you're a Republican or a Democrat.
But seriously...... or maybe not. This is a good article that has good info on why people get their backs up against the wall and won't listen to reason and how to deal with them. 4 pages. Not that much, so don't give up.

Why should I believe you?
M - The politicians are always good for a laugh.
LET - Because I've convinced myself that I'm always right. This goes back to that narcissist thing from yesterdays post.
Loved the article, particularly the last sentence: "...paradoxically, you don't lead with the facts in order to convince. You lead with the values - so as to give the facts a fighting chance." Oy.
B - Exactly. That was the sentence that made me want to post the article. It reminded me of the saying, "Facts?! We don't need no stinkin' facts!"
