1891 - Browsers

I'm having more fun than I can stand these days with internet browsers. Who knows what options have been set, turned on, turned off, etc. over the years. But right now I can't blog with just one browser.

For some reason an update to IE8 screwed up my ability to get to the new post page or any design element pages. Here's what they look like.

Big blank nothing. Great isn't it? So I use Chrome to do my posts. But then if I try to use Chrome to make comments, the comment disappears (sometimes), and I go back to the comment screen and get to try again. I was going to show you with some pictures but guess what, IT'S WORKING! CRAP! It knows I was going to expose it.

So some more testing shows that when I'm not signed in, the comment doesn't take the first time. The second time it asks for my login, takes it and posts the comment. This is different than a few weeks ago when it would never ask me for a login.

So maybe I'll start using Chro.... WAIT! No, I didn't say that!!

Oh, I almost forgot. Chrome doesn't seem to acknowledge line returns in the posts. So I have to use line breaks to get a blank line between paragraphs. Thank goodness for hotkey. One button and done.

OK lets end with something funny..... well sad. From Not Always Right.

Who Needs Learnin’ When You Can Be Sun Burnin’, Part 2 BOOKSTORE | LIVINGSTON, NJ, USA | CHILDREN, PARENTS (I am helping a mother and her teenage son go through his summer reading list to find a book that will meet his requirement. I usually do this by working with the kid to find one that they’re genuinely interested in reading, but in this case, the mother keeps interrupting.)

Customer: “My god, look at how long all these books are!”

Me: *to the son* “You said you like mysteries, right? And Then There Were None is on your son’s reading list. I think you’d like it.”

Customer: *looking at the book* “It’s almost four hundred pages! How do you expect him to finish that thing?”

Me: “Well, he does have the whole summer.”

Customer: “Absolutely not! How can they expect him to read that much? It’s insane!”

Customer’s Son: *reading the back cover* “Mom, this actually sounds really good. There are ten people on an island and they start dying one by one.”

Customer: “Honey, you shouldn’t have to read that much. You’ll waste your whole summer! We want a book that’s under a hundred pages.”

Me: “I’m sorry, but none of these books are going to be under a hundred pages. I think the shortest one is about two hundred.”

Customer: “This is so ridiculous. How can they do this to him? Let’s pick a book from that rack over there. Those look much more manageable.”

Me: “Ma’am, that display is required reading for the local elementary school.”

Customer: “I don’t care what it is. We’re picking from there.”

Me: “None of those are on the reading list. Your son is going into tenth grade.”

Customer: “Well, these look like the books I would want to read. If I ever wanted to read, that is.”

Customer’s Son: “I think we should just get the one he recommended. It sounds awesome!”

Customer: “Forget it. You know what? We’re gonna drive by the school so I can complain to the principal. It’s ridiculous for them to expect you to read during the summer! That’s crazy!”

I started with IE, moved up to Firefox, and now use Chrome, which works great for me (so far, at least). Maybe you're not holding your tongue right.

The woman in the bookstore makes me want to cry ... the fact that she's breeding makes it that much worse.

For some people, reading is unimportant. Some dunces are born, some work at being one all their lives.

Bilbo - I stick my tougue out the left side of my mouth when I'm thinging hard. Maybe I'll try the right side.

I thought the book story might catch your attention.

Angel - This Mom seems to be going above and beyond.

I'm using Chrome and Firefox most of the time. In fact, I never use IE anymore. Also Safari sucks balls.

I still use IE8.

Heidi - I wish my IE8 worked for everything.

IE?? Really? I thought the only people still using that had dial-up connections ... no?

Dana - I keep looking for a better browser and haven't found one. I think the fonts that chrome uses for blogger suck. And I haven't found a way to change them.
