2032 - Trivia schmivia

Well we were at trivia Tuesday night when a question came up that I think was ... strange. Question - Who is the highest grossing actor in the world at 7.6 billion dollars for 48 films? We all just looked at each other and said WHAT?! 7.6 billion dollars? An actor?

Well the way the question was worded, and I'm not sure I got it exactly right above, we were thinking actor pay. The 7.6 billion was actually total movie gross, not actor pay. Still 7.6 billion is a lot of movie gross. So we guessed .... WRONG! I forget who we said but the answer was, are you ready for this?, Samuel L. Jackson.

So today when the thought came back into my head to check this out, it was off to the knower of everything, Wikipedia. And the following is from two actors' pages. The first one being Frank Welker. Who?

As of March 2012, Welker had voiced or appeared in 96 movies with a combined gross revenue of over $6.4 billion making him the top grossing actor by this standard (and almost $1.3 Billion ahead of the next highest grossing actor, Samuel L. Jackson).

In October 2011, Jackson surpassed Frank Welker as the highest grossing film actor of all-time. … For all the films in his career, where he is featured as a leading actor or supporting co-star, his films have grossed a total of $2.81 to $4.91 billion at the North American box office, placing him as the seventh (as strictly lead) or the second highest-grossing movie star (counting supporting roles) of all time; behind only that of voice actor Frank Welker. The 2009 edition of The Guinness World Records, which uses a different calculation to determine film grosses, stated that Jackson is the world's highest grossing actor, having earned $7.42 billion in 68 films.

So as you can see everything is as clear as mud depending on who's typing in Wikipedia and who you want to believe.

that's so absurd

Well, THEY haven't earned billions, just the movies they've appeared in.

But, that voice actor thing? I would totally love to do that. Stroll into work somewhere around noon wearing your PJ's, sit down in front of a microphone and talk for a while and make big money? Yeah, that would be sweet.

I agree with Jay - what a great job voiceover work would be.
Damn that guidance counselor who said a woman could not do that work or radio work and told me to be a nurse or a teacher. Where is that rat bastard?

Andrea - Especially for 48 films.

Dianne - Especially for 48 films. (I think I repeat myself)

Jay - You're off to good start with IWS. Now you just have to be discoverd.

Peg - That was back it the day wasn't it? Girl? Nurse or teacher, NEXT!

I would not have guesed either one. Wikipedia leaves me unsure at times.

Grand - For sure neither one came to mind while we were at trivia.

I haven't heard of either one.

Heidi - You would know Jackson if you saw him. He's been in to many movies.
