Going to St Maartin anytime soon? Have you seen the airport landing videos? They are kind of fun. I think I would be one of those people standing on the beach.

I've been to St. Maarten's. The take off is right over the beach. It's a short runway, by the way!

Been there done that. Crazy isn't it? Most of the caribbean island runways are so short and I always wondered why. Talk about good pilots huh?
Fyi: cool dry air is the most dense and best for takeoff on short runways. Hot humid air is the worst and requires longer runways and more takeoff speed. That's why they start running up the engines with the brakes still locked to get faster acceleration.
