The headline of a news article on CBC (Canada) - Coyotes may be start of larger urban carnivore trend -
and - Bears, wolves and mountain lions may be next to migrate to cities -
(This looks like a well fed coyote to me)
The article talks mainly about how the midsized preditors like coyotes will lead to the larger preditors following in their footsteps. Not right away but eventually.
And then in the article there was a link to a side story about a parasite that infects coyotes, and then dogs, and people (of course).
What parasite do you ask? Why Echinococcus multilocularis. Here's a picture of what it did to the insides of a rat.
Nice eh? And then here is a chart with the life cycle of our little parasite friend.
So if you have a coyote hanging around your property, be very aware. Especially for your pets. Want to get rid of them? Here's a 'how to' ARTICLE.

Really scary information about the possible infections. Coyotes have expanded their range. Once they were thought of as a Western species but are all over now.
Coyotes are opportunist predators. Cats and small dogs are not immune.
Thet was a very useful article. Thank you.
Angel - Small pets owners beware.
Duck - You're welcome.
DOOMED! We're all DOOMED!!!! ;-)

I know some people I'd love for a coyote to bite the shit out of.
Yikes! I'm happy about the turkeys and possums that visit our garden every night now.
Jay - Maybe not all of us. I found a coyotes' wallet and your picture was in it with directions to your apartment.
Candice - We all know people that would make that list.
Amanda - Do you even have coyotes in AU?
