2108 - TEDed

You all know about TED right? 5 to 20 minute shorts about any subject by experts in the field. I have a link on my sidebar.

Well Ted is expanding. There is now a TEDed beta. It's more of an..... it's just like TED.  Except they give you a little quiz after a 3 to 5 minute presentation. I found this little diddy about 'why is the letter b in doubt'? It does a good job of explaining the root of the word and why the b is there. Unfortunately they don't have a share option that lets me put a video here. But here's a LINK. You don't have to sign in to take the short test.

Interesting eh? Did you look at the other links at the bottom of the page while you were there? You may have seen Making Sense of Spelling. It goes into a few more words and their roots. Again, it's short and has a test.

And then there is one called 'How Did English Evolve'? It compresses a thousand years into 5 minutes.

I have a book called The History of English. The TEDed short sort of fits what I remember from the book. Which if I remember right said English was down to being spoken in one county in England when it made a comeback. If anyone is interested in the book I'll try and find it to get the ISBN number, if it has one. Amazon has books with the same title but not the book I have.... somewhere.

Interesting stuff. Its a day of learning for me - this morning, I found out about how the current treble and bass clefs evolved from the grand stave.
