A guy, Peng Shulin, got run over by a truck in 1995, was literally cut in half, and survived. Here's the first picture....
Here are some pictures of him after they sewed him up. They made a big cup holder for him to fit into and get around.
Push ups anyone? I wouldn't want to compete against him in a contest.
Here's some video from the accident. The only thing that I can figure is that anyplace that he would have bled out from was smashed shut.

Peg - At an American hospital they would have 'stabilized' him and sent him home.
