2916 - Road trip

A guy named Randy has figured out the ultimate road trip through the 48 states. It had to meet the following criteria.

1.The trip must make at least one stop in all 48 states in the contiguous U.S.

2.The trip would only make stops at National Natural Landmarks, National Historic Sites, National Parks, or National Monuments.

3.The trip must be taken by car and never leave the U.S.

With those in mind, here is a map of the trip.

Here are the 50 stops along the nearly 14,000 mile trip. If you drove 10 hours a day (avg. 60mph) then stayed one day at each stop the trip would take about 45 days. When you stop in St. Louis, I'll find a nice cheap motel where you can stay.

Now that might take a while, but it's a good time to go while the gas prices are low. We just got the "best route" instructions from some friends for our drive from Texas to Maine this summer.

My family took a trip west from NY in 1969. We rented a motor home and stayed with some friends or relatives when we could. I've lots of memories of it, but perhaps the best was being at Lake Tahoe camping when the moon landing happened. We saw it on this tiny tv and could see the moon high in the sky. Amazing!

We didn't get to 48 states, but went through the majority. I recommend such a trip to anyone. This route looks like a good one but I'd take some extra time to see some other sites too.

I saw this on facebook. I would love to have just the time to do such a thing. Ah, a girl can dream.
