Here's a list of plants that are high on the list of mosquito repellant plants.
Basil
Catnip
Floss Silk
Geranium
Lemon Balm
Pennyroyal
Citronella
Lavender
Lemon Thyme
Marigold
Peppermint
Rosemary
I found these in an article that has some descriptions and pictures. Pictures are good.
Here's a picture of one of the above mentioned plants.
Find out what it is by reading the ARTICLE. I'd never heard of it before.
And beware of purple flowers. They tend to attract flying critters with stingers.

That's a great list. I think I'll grow a herb garden. Rosemary and basil smells great, anyway!
Peppermint could also be useful for making mint juleps.
We're tried citronella a lot. I'm not so sure about the results but it always smells soooo good...it's still worth it.
I've read that research shows that mosquitoes are attracted to prey by exhaled carbon dioxide. While not breathing isn't a good long term solution, slowing one's breathing (and standing near a heavy breather) can help one to get bit less often.
