3036 - The Shell Grotto


No not the oil company. This is an underground man made small cave that that is covered in 4.5 million sea shells.

If you want to investigate this more there are two sources. One, Wikipedia to prove this is true. Two, a site called Little Things (with more pictures) that likes to investigate stories like this.

Although it was discovered in a farmer's field in 1835, it's now in the middle of an urban area.


So the next time you're in Margate, Kent, stop by for a visit.

Not sure how you ever found this, but it is very interesting. About my travels....we had reservations for a long time before we bought the new house and moved, so now we get to rest!
