3239 - Miso.... what?

That would be misophonia and misokinesia. That means you are allergic (sort of) to sound or movement.

There's a site (NO, say it ain't so) about misophonia. It has a short test you can take to see if you are misophonic (I just made that word up!).

We all know about fingernails on the blackboard. Or that piece of chalk that squeaks just the right way and send chills down your back. Well did you know there are people that will attack you if you make the wrong sound near them? Not just certain sounds. "The" sound that they are allergic to. Like you coughing, or a door slamming, or ANYthing.

There's a 1 to 10 scale that rates the severity of the misophonia.

Then there are the misokinesia's. They react to a particular movement in a negative way. Picture yourself sitting there thinking about something and bouncing your leg or tapping your finger. Then someone saying "STOP THAT". Ah misokinesia raising it's ugly head.

So as always I'm going to send you off to read more. Here is a test - http://www.allergictosound.com/blog/do-you-have-misophonia-take-the-test/

And then the LINK to a little info on misokinesia.

Sometimes it's just the sound of a certain voice that can do it -- although I'm sure it has more to do with the person than the voice.
It's like a warning going off in my head -- LEAVE NOW OR SPEND TIME IN JAIL!

The scraping of a knife on a frying pan or chalk on a blackboard can do it for some people. Then there's shrill voices. Those are baaad!

I definitely have had misophonia for decades, but only heard the name a few years ago. For me, slurping, sucking, and chewing are the worst.

There are worse things, but few, when it rears its ugly head. Nobody has died, but it's definitely been contemplated. Fortunately my coworkers are understanding for the most part and, even more fortunately, my wife is very understanding.
