Here's an article about radium in drinking water. The article doesn't say this but I think the problem might be with water that comes from wells. The St. Louis area gets it's water from rivers and there doesn't seem to be any problems.

This is good to look into. We had BAD water in N.O.
SLC doesn't seem to be too bad.
