Have you looked up a word in an online dictionary recently. Have you noticed the pronunciation guide right after the word. Something that looks like a foreign language?
Well here is a video on the th sound. And if you can make it through the 3 minutes there are links to all the other symbols and their sounds.
From the YouTube page...
The /θ/ is a sound from the ‘Consonants Pairs’ group and it is called the ‘Voiceless dental fricative’. This means that you create fiction between the tongue and top teeth.
The /θ/ sound is made through the mouth and it is 'Unvoiced' which means that you don't use your vocal chords to make the sound.
It is defined by position of your tongue and teeth and it is a fricative, which is a sound that is produced by high pressure air flow between a narrow space in the mouth. In this case it is between the tip of the tongue and the top teeth.
To produce the sound you have to stick out your tongue a little. This can feel very unnatural for some people who are not used to it. But it is essential to produce the sound correctly. Rest your top teeth on your tongue and force air out between your teeth .
There are billions of people and a version of normal to go along with each one of them. No two versions are exactly the same. There will be hundreds of thousands of little things that make up your version of normal. With any luck you can find people that have close to the same idea of what normal is that you do. These are your friends. Anyone else you try to tolerate as best you can.
....
The exact definition of normal depends on who's running the asylum.

COMMENT CHANGE
ABOUT HALF THE BLOGGERS THAT LEAVE COMMENTS DON'T GENERATE AN EMAIL NOTICE. NO PROBLEM ON TODAYS POST. BUT WHEN YOU GO BACK TO AN OLDER POST I DON'T KNOW THE COMMENT IS THERE. SO I HAVE TO REMEMBER TO SCAN OLD POSTS FOR NEW COMMENTS. THE FIX IS TO PUT 3 DAY OLD OR OLDER POSTS INTO COMMENT MODERATION. THAT GENERATES AN EMAIL. WE'LL SEE HOW THIS WORKS.

What is this picture? The 25 pair telephone cable color code.

This reminds me too much of my speech classes. I'm having a flashback and it's not pleasant.
I did speech class too.
I sound a bit like Daffy Duck.
That's hard to do right.
thanks, Mike
