4316 - Payphone

I got this from a telco retirees site. If the crooks can haul away cash machines I don't know how this will stop them. Blow up the picture to see how thick the two security bars are. Those are not standard telco issue.

I used to work on coin phones. It's amazing what people can do to a payphone. Mostly handsets, cords, and dials, but when the crooks start beating on these they can wreak havoc.

I bet the locking system costs more than the payphoneE

Wow. I love the sign stating it works. I would see this and have to try it. Remember the days when my father made me always be sure I had a dime so I could call him if necessary. Ah, the old days.

I saw several when in Ontario.

Those are serious security bars. I'm impressed by the variety of important free calls but 50 cents a minute otherwise? Yikes, that's a lot of change!

Do you know where and when this photo was taken?

Allen - No, they didn't have that info in their post. This is just a guess, but it might be in a not so nice neighborhood.

I remember the good old days when I was in high school and college, and always checked the coin return slot every time I passed a pay phone ... I found a lot of change there over the years.
