5007- Merry Christmas - edit

A Christmas poem. Not by me, except by editing.

********************

T'was the night before Christmas,
and all through the town,
people wore masks,
that covered their frown.

The frown had begun
way back in the spring
when a global pandemic
changed everything.

They called it corona,
but unlike the beer,
no bringing of good times,
no bringing of cheer.

Airplanes were grounded,
travel was banned.
Borders were closed
'cross air, sea, and land.

As the world entered lockdown
to flatten the curve,
the economy halted,
and folks lost their nerve.

From March to July
we rode the first wave,
people stayed home,
they tried to behave.

When summer began,
the lockdown was lifted,
folks lost their caution,
many folks drifted.

Now it’s December
and cases are spiking,
wave two has arrived now,
with much more disliking.

It’s true that this year
had sadness a-plenty,
we’ll never forget
this year 2020.

And just ‘round the corner
the holiday season,
but why to be merry?
Is there even a reason?

Decorating the house
and put up the tree,
who will now see it?
No one but me.

But outside my window,
the snow gently falls,
and I think to myself,
Let’s all deck the halls!

So, I gather the ribbon,
the garland, and bows,
as I play those old carols,
my happiness grows.
Christmas' not canceled
and neither is hope.
If we lean on each other,
I know we can cope!

And one thing to say
before this day ends,
Merry Christmas to all
of my family and friends!

Here is the original. I'm not into poetry that much, but I thought this needed fixing. It's the engineer in me. I look for things to fix.

And a very Merry Christmas to you. Ours is drawing to a close - and it was low key and lovely.

EC - Ours will be even lower key. I might just sleep in.

You see Mike!!!, Elephants Childs com-girl-t proved what i said the other day!. "Our Christmas is drawing to a close" ! ? ! ?. And even you Mike my old mate "Ours will be even lower key" ! ? ! ?, you must be joking my old muckers (aristocratic slang for pals) ! ! !. For me the magic started weeks ago and will go on for another 2 or 3 weeks right into the New Year, you two dont seem to understand that Christmas is THE most magical time of the year (its light years ahead of whatever time of year gets the silver medal, whatever that relatively mediocre time of the year might be, i actually dont know what that time of year is because, for me, Christmas is the be-all end-all, obviously!). You must revel and wallow in the Christmas magic for as long as possible!. If its only gonna` be a one day fiasco of false happiness, relatively low-key celebrations and half-arsed and very embarrassing family get-togethers, you might as well not bother at all ! ! !.

I see. Before the editing, it was one big paragraph. Now it's a poem!

Merry Christmas.

BTW that other comment was not me...

LJ - How many logons have you got set up on Blogger?

LJ - We came as close to 'not bothering at all' as we have in any years past.

M - Ours was quiet also.

DSWS - I can edit. I just can't write.

K - When I read the original, I heard a poem in the background. I took about 3 rewrites to get it to where it is.

C - I need all the blessings I can get.

AW - Loony John likes to use your name and Ole Phat Stu's because you're not on blogger. I can tell when it's not you or Stu. But if I happen to zap one of your comments thinking it was LJ, it will just be because
of a bad guess.
