I got a note from a computer friend. Urgent update for windows. I went to settings and checked for an update. There it was. I ran the update. no problems.
So just go on with my business, right? No, let's check and see if there are any more updates. Hey look, there's another update. Hey, let's run this update. What could go wro... .... ... ... Hello? What's happening!? .... .... Hellloooooo? .....
So what was that update?
20H2. A major windows update. How long did that take? Well with me leaving the computer, checking back, leaving, checking back, How about 4 hours.
First it has to download the update. Then it has to download the update again. (that's what it seemed like.) Then, "Windows is loading the new update. This could take a while". No shit. Checking, leaving, checking, leaving, ... , Windows will now restart. Oh no it won't. Crash. ... ... ... Windows will now restart. Oh no it won't, crash. ... ... ... Finally restarted. Elapsed time? About 4 hours. OK now it seems to be working.
Next day. Windows has to restart. Only a couple of minutes this time. But still...
So we'll see what happens tomorrow(today).
Most of the new stuff in this major update seems to be for laptops. Most of the options that were added to settings assume you are on the move which I am not. I may go back to the previous update if this gives me any more trouble. But then doing that will always catch up with you at the next update when they say, "You haven't updated blah blah blah."

Hiss and spit.
I will have to check. We had a BIG update a few days ago - but it didn't take that long and restarted happily.
Sue - I don't know what was going on with mine. My son is updating now and he is doing the same running back and forth thing seeing if it's done.
I don't always trust those "update" things. Doesn't help that I'm likely the least tech savvy idiot in the world...
BAF - I don't trust them either but I do them. I usually wait to see if other people have had problems and give Microsoft time to fix the update.
Why my Pixelbook go is on the way, Mike. I usually Google around and try to fix my own issues but now you know I'm going to ask you you sound knowledgeable! How to geek is a cool site.
Cloudia - I'll put it in my things to do pile. Let's see, it's 2021 right now.
I can't say this too loud, but there were no hiccups with the computer this morning. Shhhhhhhh!
I try to wait until the end of the day and let the computer update overnight.
Kathy - I let my wife's computer do that too.
I got the update notice too, and dutifully downloaded. It was a success, according to a later notice, but everything looks the same! I'm not sure what exactly was updated. By the way, my computer is a laptop, but it never leaves my dining room table.

Not that you asked but I just hate updates!
Peggy - I just close my eyes and hit the button.
