5445 - Mack... But which one?

I saw this meme on Facebook...

Now, this would have been funny had I known who Mary Mack was. I had to go search for the mysterious Miss Mary Mack. I found her here...

But that's not what popped into my head when I was reading the meme. This did...

Now, THIS took me back to the good old days! I listened to it about 20 times in a row. Just do it!

Most people don't realize that Miss Mary Mack was also famous for giving birth to a 14-pound baby who became known as "Big Mack."

I've never heard of the children's song "Miss Mary Mack" but I know the Vandellas song. When I hear "Mary Mack" I think of the classic song by the Newfoundland band Great Big Sea --

I know both songs. I'm afraid to click on either this morning, because then I'll have it stuck in my head all day!

We had a very famous African American Artist, Ella Jenkins, come to my elementary school back in the 1970's and she sang Miss Mary Mack. I never forgot it - must have been about 6.

I immediately got the reference in the first meme and remember playing Mary Mack, but don't remember it being as easy as it looked in the vid. There was much missing the hand slap and a lot of laughter.

I think I'm too young - I had no idea who Mary Mack was.
Also for the Vandellas I was a mere baby. :-)
Finally I'm too young for something!! Thx Mike

Deb - Wow. ... Wow.

Kathy - I can tell. You thinking ... about... JIMMY MACK!
Jimmy Mack. Jimmy. Oh, Jimmy Mack when are you comin' back!

Lady - She'll be 98 in August.

Shirley - You could practice on your wall in your apartment and annoy the hell out of your neighbors. Crank the music up!

Peg - You snuck in while I was typing.
Neither one? I guess that makes you a tween.

Martha and the Vandellas, well, indeed that is a great throwback. I too have been listening repeatedly lately to some YouTube Songs of Yesteryear that I really like and don't own, nor will you ever hear them on the Radio. I quit listening to Radio a few Years ago, it ain't what it used to be and selection is shit. First thing I thought of about Mary Mack {who is she}... and then some Song {Return Of The Mack} which is looping in my Head, may not even be the name of the Song and for the life of me I can't remember who even sings it other than it's a Guy and I think he's a Black Artist? Or... mebbe a Group of Guys, just not sure? *LOL*

Had to Google that damned Song now, Mark Morrison in the 1990's! Well, now I can rest assured I wasn't Imagining a nonexistent Song! Whew! *bWAHAHAHA*

Dawn - I found it too and took a listen. Martha & The Vandellas win by a landslide. 😄

I remember that schoolyard ditty, but not the song by Martha and the Vandellas.

Mike said...

River - So to catch up to the rest of us you'll have to listen to Martha 200 times, at LEAST!

I think the singing/clapping games are more a girls' activity which might account for you never having heard it. I only know it through my daughter's elementary school years, not from my own, so maybe it's also relatively recent. Jimmy Mack - excellent song! Hadn't heard it for ages. Thanks for that.

Jenny - Happy earworm!
