Here is the headline...
"A New Attack Can Unmask Anonymous Users on Any Major Browser.
Researchers have found a way to use the web’s basic functions to identify who visits a site—without the user detecting the hack."
Here's the link...
Just a brief and confusing explanation...
"The technique is known as a “side channel attack” because the researchers found that they could accurately and reliably make this determination by training machine learning algorithms to parse seemingly unrelated data about how the victim’s browser and device process the request. Once the attacker knows that the one user they allowed to view the content has done so (or that the one user they blocked has been blocked) they have de-anonymized the site visitor."
A little further down in the article...
"The researchers developed a browser extension that can thwart such attacks, and it is available for Chrome and Firefox. But they note that it may impact performance and isn’t available for all browsers."
In the above sentence, Chrome and Firefox had links to load the extension into Chrome or Firefox. I use Chrome mostly so I downloaded the extension. Did it work? Hard to tell since the attack it is supposed to be preventing is undetectable. So I'm cruising along, fat, dumb, and happy.
Soon I notice I'm having problems with Blogger. It says I'm not signed in. When I try to sign in I get error messages, close the message, and then I can do what I was trying to do, but later it says I'm not signed in again. My biggest problem was trying to leave comments. YOU'RE NOT SIGNED IN! ... YES I AM!!!!
I couldn't figure out what was going on but you probably did already. It finally dawned on me about the new extension I just installed. I turned it off. Everything works again. I think the magic extension still needs some work.

BTW, nobody is going to spam jail anymore. I think Blogger actually fix the problem.

Sounds like the cure was worse than the malady.
I am having a heap of trouble leaving comments. There is one site that demands I sign in - and refuses to let me. And spam jail seems to be 'mostly' fixed.
Kirk - It drove me crazy for a couple of days. Then the light bulb came on.
Sue - My problem seemed to just be with Blogger. And in my research, I read that on some blogs you have to be "authorized".
I've been hacked more times than Lizzie Borden's parents.
Blair: "Are you telling me the dog wasn`t put in the kennel 'till last night ?, how long were you alone with that dog ?".
Clarke: "What the hell are you looking at me like that for ?".
Blair: "Who else was in the kennel with you and the dog ?.
Clarke: "Just the quite astonishing 17 year-old Pauline Hickey from 1985".
Blair: "Then theres a 100% guarantee that soon this station (US outpost number 31 McMurdo) will be completely over-run with truly incredible 17 year-old Pauline Hickey 'look-a-likes/clones/replicas/flawless imitations'.
Kurt Russell (MacCready) "Thats the greatest news i`ve ever heard in my life ! ! !".
The joys of the internet!
Since I don't get a slew of traffic on my blog I'm not going to worry about it, and if someone wants to 'unmask' me for visiting a certain website my conscience is clear.
Bill - I remember you talking about a few of them but it's been a while hasn't it? Maybe it's time again. Just for old-time's sake.
LJ - MacReady
Deb - They just keep coming.
Kathy - "my conscience is clear" So is mine... ... BWAHAHAHAHA!
Every time changes are made, it produces other problems. The joys of technology!
Thanks for trying it out so I don't have to!
Martha - Exactly.
Shaw - I saved you 2 days of grief!
I'm just too overwhelmed by this type of info to pay attention to it. I simply ignore.
Thank you for the information and for taking the bullet, in a sense, for us. Glad it was resolved.
Cheers to you, Mike.
Robyn - It drove me nuts for a few days.
I don't understand the "inner workings", I'm just happy my computer works when I want it to.
Yes, spam is back down again. The web is a living breathing thing, darn it!
River - Sometimes that's me too.
Cloudia - It's like that to see if you are paying attention.
