I got a letter from AT&T yesterday about my healthcare. They keep chipping away at it a little at a time. Some big companies have dumped their retirees. I keep waiting for AT&T to do that too. Right now I have healthcare through a contractor to AT&T. The contractor has about 20 different plans to pick from. In 2023 I can keep the same plan (United Healthcare).
Also this year AT&T has started its own healthcare plan (through United Healthcare) that is basically in competition with their contractor. And in 2024 the contractor is going away and I'll have to take the AT&T plan which is very similar to what I have now.
So here is most of the letter. You don't have to read the whole thing. Just between the red messy brackets on the first page and the circled number 1 on the second page. See if you can read between the lines and guess what's coming down the line.

Sigh. Our health care system is by no means perfect but I much prefer it to yours.
Sue - I'm hoping for universal health care.
I never cease to be amazed that we do not have universal healthcare. It's a testament to the power of the market economy that it's more important to make money than it is to care for the sick.
What Bill said!
At least they're still offering something that's viable.
The GOP plan is to kill off retirees asap to save money on pensions and health care. Pure capitalist greed.
I just found out our provider is pulling out of Colorado so now I have to look for a new one.
Bill - And I don't know if that will ever change. I republicans take over one or both houses Biden will have to buy extra veto pens.
John - YES!
Kathy - True, but they have been chipping away little bits at a time since before I retired. Just enough where you say to yourself, well at least we still have...
Anon - Capitalist greed to the max.
Lady - And now you get to try and compare plan after plan after plan.
I'm meeting with my medicare person Friday of next week. i can't wait to hear how bad things will change. I'll be paying for my eye at Duke until i die I fear.
I'm confused by all this. I thought Medicare was what the government offered, and private health care plans, like United Healthcare were just that, private. Do they work in tandem, some sort of public-private partnership?
You can tell I'm not retired yet, can't you?
I think when I retire, I just might throw a rock through a jewelry store window and see what kind of healthcare prison offers.
@Margaret (Peggy or Peg too) ,
some of you Merkins might like to consider getting your e.g. cateracts
done here in Germany if it is cheaper. Both eyes cost me €6000 here.
Peg - Good luck with that.
Kirk - At 65 I went off the AT&T plan and went on medicare. But then I picked up a medicare supplement plan that is offered by AT&T. I picked a united healthcare supplement plan (that handles the medicare billing) offered by the contractor that AT&T hired to manage the retiree health plans. AND THEN on top of that, I have copays through united health care. But I can get the copays back through the contractor by submitting the copay bills to them up to $4700 for the year. I can also get the approx $200 a month I pay for medicare back from them too. It's one big circle jerk.
Stu - I don't know if Peg has thought of taking a medical vacation.
What's coming down the line does not look good! Keep voting for universal health care. I wouldn't like to live in your country, where money is more important than people.
