5755 - XBB.1.5

The new variation of covid, XBB.1.5, is 5 times as transmissible as the previous versions, BA3, 4, and 5.

Here's a fun chart to bring you back up to date on transmission risks...

And an article about being a oneway masker but dealing with it.

Here's some more interesting info...
My sister has covid for the third time. The previous two times her husband didn't get it. He has it now too.

A guy and his wife that I know had covid in December. She is now in the hospital with blood clots like Al Roker had. He told me his doctor said many people over 70 will get blood clots after covid.

Sigh. It seems that we are just going to have to learn to live with it - which means that some of our most vulnerable with die with it.

Sue - Well, for the time being, I'm going to be one of the oneway maskers. I am right now at most places I go.

I remember the good old days, when we just used to worry about "flu" or "covid" rather than something that looks like an exercise in a calculus textbook.

I heard about the new variant on NPR yesterday. I suppose the virus will never go away, will it?

It seems I will eventually get this and I am a one way masker. I recall asking my eye doctor at Duke if we will ever be without masks in the hospital/doctors office. He said no, this will not go away. I thought he was being awfully negative but apparently correct.

Still wearing my mask. And I'm usually the only one in stores and other crowded places.

Bill - But the charts are in color! And that makes them fun, right?!

Kathy - Probably not in my lifetime, maybe in yours. Think how many more people would be on the planet if the medical community had been able to fight the black plague.

Peg - Every doctor (which is a lot) we go to has masking requirements.

Shaw - We were typing at the same time. I'm right there with you and the mask.

What we thought was in the rear view mirror is now revving the gas.

I hope your sister and husband recover.

Have you noticed how many young people are dying with cardiac arrest? Has any one mentioned the vaccines causing such a horrible event?

Still have not gotten it. I wear a mask in crowded places.

Susan - There are some odd theories floating around right now. I heard someone the other day say a friend got MS from the vaccine. One thing I know is that if you get covid and you're over 70 you have a good chance of getting blood clots.

Lady - Haven't had it either. I have a good supply of N95 masks.

All the more reason to stay away from the madding crowds.

River - Exactly!

Le Sigh, Viruses have a tendency to get more virulent over Time and to morph into something more sustainable for their very survival, so I can't say I'm Surprised. Also, if they don't kill off their Hosts right away, they have an even better chance of replicating. I foresee this one becoming trickier and trickier to manage, especially since the Public grows weary of protocol so easily that in the end, people will assume higher risks out of convenience.

Dawn - 8 billion people on the planet doesn't help matters either.
