Somebody asked on here if a tree grew like that or if it was trimmed. Well the
answer is "cloud pruning". Here's an article about the process. And at the end
of the article, there is a book you can buy.

What an interesting effect. I suspect it shows to its best in bigger gardens though.
I don't prune so I won't be buying that book, but it's nice to know the term "cloud pruning" and be able to inform others when they see trees or shrubs done this way.
Oh I got to check this out!
I learn something new every day! I always thought pruning was an organic cure for constipation.
Never knew about this. Very creative!
Bilbo's organic cures for the constipated curmudgeon!
Sue - Bigger gardens with gardeners who are more talented than me.
River - It would be hard to call what I do pruning. Wacking and hacking would be more descriptive.
Cloudia - Don't let one of those cloud pruners get too close to YOU!
Bill - It is for most people except republicans. Hence the term, full of s**t.
Shaw - Creative and a LOT of work. I imagine those pictures were taken RIGHT after they were trimmed.
John - You callin' Bill a curmudgeon?! Say it ain't so!
Uggh! I hate pruning bushes.
Lady - So if someone cloud pruning challenged you, it might take a while to complete?
