I watched an Independent Lens the other night. One Person One Vote, about the electoral college. There were some interesting facts in it that I didn't realize. It's a little over an hour but well worth the time. Of course you have to have a PBS membership to watch it online. And since it was on my 9.3 channel at 3:00 in the morning, I assume it's already been broadcast on the main PBS channel. Here's the URL...
One of the interesting facts they talked about was the 3/5 of a person for a slave. I turns out it was the Northern states that negotiated that. The Southern states wanted slaves to be counted as a whole person even though they couldn't vote. This would have increased the Souths number of electoral votes because of a population increase. The program said Thomas Jefferson won the presidency because of the extra 3/5 population count. If slaves had not been counted at all he would have lost.
One of these days I'll figure out how to get by the PBS video block so I could post one.

I'm at my limit on subscriptions and memberships. I need to decide which ones I can drop before I add another one. Sigh.
Some of these discussions are extremely interesting...
You're not a PBS member?!
This one definitely is.
Given what's going on in Washington, better enjoy PBS while you can.
If you are a member you can download the Passport app, which lets you stream at your convenience.
I didn't follow that link ecause I know I won't understand it, but I do think the Electoral College is no longer relevant and should be disbanded.
i don't pretend to understand voting and the way the numbers work.... it's hard enough in England...... maybe you just convince everyone to get a vpn and they can watch your videos?
I have PBS streaming service. I wonder if I can get it through that.
That's what the link is.
Send them money.
Totally agree.
You would still have to be a PBS member at a certain member level or above.
Do you have Passport? If you gave them enough money you should have it.
PBS? Public Bull Sh*t?
That's what they report on. Also called tRUMP.
