No not the TV show. This is better. Amanda went nuts with some numbers yesterday. Even the linguist liked it. I offered Amanda a piece of pi. It's an old blog I have out there from .... back. It's the first million digits of pi. It's a fascinating read.
Where do you get the first million digits of pi? I thought you'd never ask. Well there's a program that generates irrational numbers, pi being one of them. You can get it here. Who would use it you ask! It's like asking who would use the word bloviator. Not many people. But, if you want to see how fast your computer is operating, download it and run it. It will create a text file you can look at. And it will tell you - Total computation time : 3.16 seconds.
So my computer can calculate one million digits of pi in 3.16 seconds. As I get newer computers with faster processors the time comes down. I've actually calculated 1.1 billion digits. That took almost two days to run. I'm planning on setting up a computer that I can just let run for a month or two and see how many digits it will crank out.
But back to Amanda. I nominate her to be the groups new numbers person. We should expect a numbers post every da.. wee.. once in awhile. All those in favor ...
Merry Christmas

I second the nomination. Amanda, you're on!
LOL! Thanks for the nomination. I'll try my best to dig up interesting stuff on numbers. I've been to Numeric Life's blog and it was super interesting....not sure I'll live up to that standard :)
Yes, someone has to take up the mantle from Numeric Life...maybe we can even convince her to come back! For now, let's all chant: "Amanda's Number One!!"
Did you help calculate Exxon/Mobile's profit margin? Or how about Bilbo's 0.006 salary?
And 2 and 3 and 3.14159 and 4 ......
Amanda's Number One!
Chanting it here.
