1817 - CAPTCHA ya

I think I may finish out my blogging career with nonpost posts. Nobody's going to figure that out right?

Well maybe not. There's just too much information to pass along. Like word verification information!! Just what everyone wanted to hear about again. right? Well here's how my no WV experiment is going.

So far no spam has snuck through. I get spam now. And I get an email saying I've had a comment. I can see it's a spam comment. But by the time I get to the comment, it's gone.

Does everyone know about the new spam tab on your Blogger interface under comments? That's where all the spam winds up. It's just like a REAL spam blocker.

But it does seem that Blogger has taken some of the complaints about WV seriously. If you've noticed the words are a little easier to read. They got rid of the black blob with white lettering thing on the first word.

And I thought CAPTCHA was a book translation program. But it's actually reCAPTCHA that does the book decoding. And if you go to Wikipedia you'll see the differe..... wait, they look the same to me. If somebody figures this out, let me know.

1804 - SPAMMER!!!!!!

Yes I had my first spam message on yesterdays post. BUT. Something weird happened. The spam message showed up in my notification email. But when I went to my post and looked at the comments it was gone.

Usually when someone deletes a comment the comment trace is left behind saying 'comment deleted'. Then you usually know that the next comment has all the typos fixed from the deleted comment.

BUT. No trace. It's like Blogger saw it and totally zapped it. Since I number my posts it's pretty easy to tell where the comment came from.

At first I thought it was "a friend" playing a joke. But unless I have a friend that speaks Russian I don't think that was it.

If anyone is interested I'll email you the spam message. It's probably harmless. Go ahead. Click the link. I'm sure nothing bad will happen. Trust me.



And how could I miss an opportunity to post at 2/21/12 12:21?

I was going to do a post on the new pain in the ass doesn't work well word verification. Jay said he was thinking about doing a post on it too. Dianne beat us to it. And she's got a link to another post about it.

I've turned mine off for now. We'll see how it goes.

Guess whos' blog isn't mentioned. Yeah I know mine, but yours too. So I did some research. Go figure. It seems to get on this list you have to have LOTS of followers. LOTS. That first one has over 2000 followers. 2000 people with nothing better to do. (Oh, and some of these sites are freakin' ad sites.)

I like to keep my group of slackers small. I'd rather that not a lot of people know what I'm doing with my spare.... OK, all my time.

Gotta' go now. I have to...........

 

1783 - Back on the list

I was going through some old links to see if they were still around. I found one that I used to go to all the time, Natures mighty pictures. But then they seemed to slack off on posting, a lot. 2008 - 9 posts, 2009 - 1, 2010 - 2, 2011 - 9. So I put them in the check later bin.

Well it seems they're back, January 2012 - 24 posts. So I'm adding it back to my sidebar.

I was looking at some of the 'friends' I have on 'Google Friend Connect'. (which is a different name than I remember) A few of them set up accounts years ago and haven't been back since. The last one I got was a guy who friended about 4000 people to get a following on his blog.

Well I tried to post some pictures and got 'internal error'. So much for pictures today. Off to another topic.

So I do this to see what happens since the note was entered a long time ago. Hey, 12,600 hits.

I'm one of 67 referring web sites for cynicalbstd.blogspot.com. What if I put my website in the URL? Crap, 7 sites. I know there should be more than that but since I don't know when this count was taken, who knows how correct it is?

As to yesterdays post, I forgot I had the Site Meter going on my site also. I looked at it for the first time in awhile and it doesn't match google stats at all. It shows a lot more hits. It does count the times I log onto the site also but even so there are more hits on Site Meter. .................. WTF!!!!!!!!!


And then I found this article about dying websites. Looks who's on the list.

Not baseball hits, blog hits. Or pageviews. Whatever you want to call them. I've been watching the google stats recently. Seems like most of my hits are coming off the internet on older posts. In other words, not many people are coming here daily. A few, (thanks readers), but not many. Here's my hits from yesterday.

1506 hangs in there at number 3. 979 has always been at or near the top. And I'm really surprised about 1497 being at the top. Especially since it's not that old.

ARTICLE - is your religion your financial destiny

 

1521 - Fight fight!!!

There's nothing like a good old religious fight. Here's an article about Steven Hawkins view on religion. It was posted Monday at 11:06 am. By 8:45 pm there were 20,000+ comments. And many of the comments have 20 to 30 replies. Some of the top comments have 2,000 replies. The facebook 'likes' went from 46K to 47K while I was reading it.

The article itself is a short article. Just long enough to get the juices flowing for a fight. If you go to the article, the comment section should come up showing 'highest rated' first. But you can view them by 'most comments', 'oldest' or 'newest'.

Who knows what the count will be for THE ARTICLE NOW.

 

1517 - Friday the 13th

Well this is a real live Friday the 13th isn't it? Blogger was down last night so I couldn't post. Now that it's back I see they did restore back to Wednesday wiping out Thursdays posts and comments. But I still had my Thursday post in a notepad file. How lucky was that?

1484 - Speed

Well I got my computer back working after a virus attack. I had to ditch Microsoft's (free) virus protection (or lack of) and switch to (free) AVG. Their program loaded and destroyed the nasty little virus. Of course this was after a lot of manual removal of a lot of crap just to be able to run anything.

So today I'm looking at AVG a little closer and find they have another free download similar to Nortons old system tweek I used to have, AVG PC tuneup. Looking through some of the tweeks I run across connection/simultaneous download tweek.

It seems that IE is defaulted to 2 simultaneous downloads. This covers all types of speed connections. But if you have a faster connection you can up that number. It can be set up to 20. I clicked on the optimize button and it set it to 10.

Two blogs that I had trouble downloading quickly were Bilbo's and Andrea's. With my number tweeked to 10, Z..IP, they're here. I just love this secret s*#@ don't you?

One of these days I'll get on Twitter...... BWAHAHAHAHA. Yeah right. But if you want to just read you don't have to sign up for Twitter. And here's proof.
