Here's a graph from the paper about the Dow Jones index over the last decade.
Of course you realize the Dow Jones is the biggest ponzi scheme there is. If the stock market was run like it should be all companies would have to declare a divided. Those that rely on the market going up are hoping that it's up when they need their money. If it's not your out of luck. The music stopped and there was no chair for you to sit in.
If you look at the line I drew in you can see the market hasn't changed much around the 10,500 line for the last 10 years. So all it is right now is back to average. You listen to all this bullshit about a stock being up or down in the news of the day and it's basically meaningless.
You want to stabilize the stock market? Pass a law that says if you buy a stock you have to keep it for three years. That will stop the short term speculators that use the market as their own personal casino. Also pass a law that if someone or a fund owns over 100,000 shares they can only sell 5% of the shares in a year. That will stop the takeovers that destroy companies and jobs.
We can get this all done as soon as we elect Bilbo president.

The good thing about having this new baby is that I feel so justified in not looking at whats happening with the stock market.
There are priorities and then there are priorities.
Woo hoo Bilbo for president!!!
"Pass a law that says if you buy a stock you have to keep it for three years."
They did. Short-term vs. long-term capital gains tax law.
It needs a snappier name. Something like "Screw you for trying to get rich law"
People should never invest in something they don't understand. Putting money into the market with no idea of how the market works is a recipe for disaster.
Same goes for individual stocks. Don't put money into industries you don't understand.
If nominated I will not run. If elected I will not serve. Oh, wait...somebody already said that. Actually, I'd rather be a quasi-benevolent dictator for life with the authority to deport useless morons (i.e., members of Congress) to someplace where they can make a productive contribution. Yemen comes to mind.
