The Rolling Stone Magazine is attempting to compile the top 500 songs of all times. Who are they kidding? That's like trying to compile a list of the best foods of all times. What's good music or good food? Depends on who you are and the enviroment in which you were raised.
So here's the top five from the list. I like 2 out of the 5. Another 2 I can't stand with one more being a 'meh'.
THE LIST

I like them all, but probably the order I'd rank them in are "Imagine," "Satisfaction," "Respect," "What's Goin' On," and "Like a Rolling Stone." But these would not be my personal top five. As you know, my personal #1favorite is another Stones' hit, "Gimme Shelter," and I'm also very fond of John Mayer's "Your Body is a Wonderland," but it's harder to rank #2 through infinity after you pick your absolute favorite song of all time.
It's obviously all rock songs and a matter of opinion.I will leave my comments in a couple of hours when I have more free time (when I get to work).
I just clocked in so the free time begins. Your are right in your opening comment. I remember the list of the greatest movies and Casablanca was #1. That movie did not do a thing for me. And what is the criteria for the movie of the year? Most of those that win best picture, I don't like and even don't get some of them.
I like all of the songs listed but to call them the five greatest is a real stretch. Music has to have a melody, perfect harmony, blend, rhythm. Today's popular music relys heavily on rhythm (beat) leaving the other aspects of great music secondary. And as you were saying, personal tase. And we all have songs that when we hear them, remind us of a certain time or place in our life.
I like all kinds of music.
Blue grass with no singing to the great orchestral pieces.
I just thought of an example of the things I was talking about above.
Susan Bowles became a hit because she made real music. She had a beautiful voice (tone quality),sang a beautiful melody, had a great instrumental arrangement accompanying her (harmony), and when you hear that rendetion of her's again, notice that percussion was basically non existent.
C - My absolute favorite changes from day to day.
B - I knew you were going to say that. ALL of that.
Wv: latone - What a french horn makes.
