Well I was out of milk. What the heck. I'll run up to Walgreens. It's 3 minutes from my house. I'll be back in 10 minutes. Right? Wrong.
I walk in, go get some milk and walk back to the register. By the time I did that there was a woman that had just beaten me there. She had a basket that was about half full and she had coupons for everything.
Of course the coupons she had didn't match half the stuff that she had in the basket. So there was a lot of out loud coupon reading going on. The clerk made one run back into the store to get the right thing for her.
Things get sorted out and the total is xxxxx. Out comes the check book. We get the check book open, get the pen ready, write some stuff down in the check register, and... out comes the debit card. That's right, she's not even writing a check. Just tracking her debit card, at the counter, at 1 in the morning.
So she moves forward far enough for me to get to the register and stop. Then she starts going over the 12" long receipt. The clerk rings me up, I hand him cash, the change machine kicks out some change.
Oh oh, now she's got a problem. She turns and starts talking to the clerk. The clerk, seeing where this is going, reaches past her, grabs my change, passes my milk back around the register and I'm out of there.
So it took 20 minutes and I don't have any place to be to begin with, BUT!!!

This was stunning news this morning:

Checkout ass clowns. Don't get me started...
B - We could probably start a special blog for that.
I always prefer going to self check-outs. They're fun.
Who the hell goes shopping with coupons at 1am?? Asshats that's who. Jeez.
"We could probably start a special blog for that."
It could be like the "people of Wal-mart" site and have pictures of heaped over carts in the express lanes as well as stories like yours. I'd offer to start it but will leave that to the retired guy with the bright idea!
Murphy's law! A real pet peave of mine is the bank drive through. Have you ever been behind someone who, after they make their transaction, they sit there and put everything away before they leave. Pull up a car length and do that.
A - No self checkouts at Walgreens. Besides, self checkouts hate me. They take me twice as long to get through.
M - And not even cut coupons. She had the whole flyer from Walgreens. They had to look for the right coupons.
J - We'll start that together just as soon as you retire. Soon, right?
B - That's why I go inside.
That pretty much describes my experience at all stores all the time. People are just rude idiots. What annoys me most is when they won't move down and put their checkbook on the conveyor and block others from putting their stuff up there. A-holes!
IWS - There must be a reason some people are like this. Next time I'm going to ask. HA!
Y'all should have been with me one night back when Mike and I were just dating, and the guy in front of us in the Express Lane had too many items. Mike just verbally let him have it, demanding to know if he really knew how to count or not! Priceless! Those were the days! People were too stunned to fight back. Now all they want to do is provoke everyone who gets in their line of fire.
I was going to add that when I was still working, shopping in the middle of the night was a huge novelty for all of us Malaysians when we had work assignments in the US. We would purposely go at that time of the day just because it was so strange to us.
Now there are 24 hr super markets in Malaysia a well.
