Well here's something that is in the news that everyone knew years ago, right?
It take a flock to fly. Over grueling, dangerous flights, Northern bald ibises will take turns at the toughest job during their migration -- leading the V-shaped formation, a new study finds.
The link takes you to an article about this supposed 'new' study. But I remember that this was discovered YEARS ago. The lead bird in the V-formation would stay there for a period of time and then drop out of the lead and go to the back. The lead position is the most tiring as that bird is pushing through the most air with no draft from another bird in front.
Again, this has been known for sometime. So how does this show up as a new idea? I think I'll invent the electric light bulb.

I didn't know that! That is one situation where being part of a group helps.
That is so neat!
I guess you should choose birds you flock with to make sure their not shirkers.
