4418 - Bullets from everywhere

You're sitting on your couch. You may have bulletproof glass in your windows. You may have a brick exterior. You should be safe, right? Wrong!

"77-Year-Old St. Louis Man Accidentally Shoots Neighbor Through Apartment Floor

A 77-year-old man was charged with misdemeanor assault after he shot through the floor of his south city apartment and hit his neighbor in the leg, authorities say.

The neighbor called police on April 27. She was bleeding from her leg when officer Landon New arrived at the St. Louis Hills neighborhood apartment complex, according to New's report.

The woman had been home when she was shot without warning, and she told New she thought the bullet had come through her ceiling. Her upstairs neighbor is Edward Ostenfeld, owner of a Czech 9mm handgun, authorities say.

"Defendant confirmed that he had accidentally fired his firearm into the apartment below," New writes in the report.

On Friday, St. Louis prosecutors filed a charge of fourth-degree assault against Ostenfeld. He was mailed a criminal summons to return to court on June 18. "

It didn't even make the broadcast news.

Why would it make the local news? It was just a little accident that goes along with the 2nd Amendment, goes with the territory!
