'Defund the police' has to be the worst name ever for a movement. It's not at all what the movement is about. Here's a cartoon that explains it perfectly.
I guess 'REALLOCATE POLICE FUNDS!' just doesn't get anyone excited. Defund the police sure does.

I suspect that the police would sometimes still be involved even if the money WAS reallocated. It would have to be a better arrangement though - for everyone.
And yes, the movement is abominably named.
EC - We need social workers showing up at some emergency calls, not police.
Over here it is not uncommon to get both attending emergencies - with the police being used as back up if and only if they are needed. The social worker/mental health worker/paramedic has prime responsibility.
EC - That sounds like a great system.
I think I may lose my mind before this election is over. The way everything gets twisted is so incredible and then the ignorance of so many people to swallow every last piece of garbage that is thrown their way scares me. When did people get this way? I remember when the rule of thumb was to question authority and to question just about everything, but I guess that was my generation's battle cry and now it seems most of us are brain dead or brainwashed or just plain tired of fighting the system. We really do need leaders who know what they're doing. Who can run this country. Who have an actual plan and who can implement that plan without a bunch of hoopla. Just do it and get it over with. We've spun our wheels for so long and look at us. We're going nowhere. Our rut is getting deeper and deeper. We're sinking fast and we've become a joke.
MR - I think this all started with Reagan. He said he was going to balance the budget. Not only did he not do that, but he ran up the biggest deficits we'd ever had. Ever since then it's been republicans spending money and Democrats trying to get the budget back in line. Backwards of what everyone thinks. And then came tRUMP. The republican revenge for the democrats electing a black president. The only thing tRUMP has done that's positive is point out how our system can fail and that it needs an upgrade.
