Does this dam look flimsy to you? A little too straight up and down? A little thin? I'm glad I don't live downstream from this.
There are billions of people and a version of normal to go along with each one of them. No two versions are exactly the same. There will be hundreds of thousands of little things that make up your version of normal. With any luck you can find people that have close to the same idea of what normal is that you do. These are your friends. Anyone else you try to tolerate as best you can. .... The exact definition of normal depends on who's running the asylum.

I'd have to see that dam from a different angle before I can make any kind of judgement.
That is one big dam. I do hope it is well built.
Kirk - Gordon Dam In Tasmania, Australia - Google it. Lots of images.
Sue - I hope it's not too close to you.
Without actually going to the trouble of doing any research, I think the dam is like an iceberg, with most of it invisible under the water. I seem to recall reading that dams are relatively thin at the top, but very thick toward the bottom so as to compensate for the weight and force of the increasingly deep water. WOW! It almost sounds like I know what I'm talking about ... I'll quit now.
There's some pretty fantastical looking structures in the link.
I think any dam is creepy looking close up.
Structural engineering is pretty amazing!
I've never thought about how a dam is structured. Apparently this one is fine.
Oh I know! Living in California for a couple of years made me very very aware of this sort of vulnerability.
Bill - Very true about being thicker at the bottom. But usually, you see that in the slope of the dam as it gets thicker at the bottom.
Deb - There are, aren't there?
Kathy - You always wonder if the designers knew what they were doing.
John - Lots of math.
Shaw - So far.
Cloudia - There are dams all over the country that are questionable.
It's probably fine but I'm glad I don't live near it.
Wow, some pretty interesting structures in that link! And that is one huge dam!
River - Me too for sure.
Martha - And flat!
