I'd have to see that dam from a different angle before I can make any kind of judgement.
That is one big dam. I do hope it is well built.

Without actually going to the trouble of doing any research, I think the dam is like an iceberg, with most of it invisible under the water. I seem to recall reading that dams are relatively thin at the top, but very thick toward the bottom so as to compensate for the weight and force of the increasingly deep water. WOW! It almost sounds like I know what I'm talking about ... I'll quit now.
There's some pretty fantastical looking structures in the link.
I think any dam is creepy looking close up.

I've never thought about how a dam is structured. Apparently this one is fine.
Oh I know! Living in California for a couple of years made me very very aware of this sort of vulnerability.
Bill - Very true about being thicker at the bottom. But usually, you see that in the slope of the dam as it gets thicker at the bottom.
