Poison control center... for you? Nope, for your pet. Our dog ate about a third of an acetaminophen pill last night. I thought, no big deal, but I better look it up just in case. Acetaminophen, poisonous to dogs and cats. Oh crap! So I did some more searching to see what Dr. Google had to say.
1. Call the poison control center right away!!!
2. Don't worry about it.

Our dog is 30 pounds. She falls into category 3 which says as long as the dose was less than 1179mg she should be OK. I figured she ate about one-third of a 500mg pill which is about 167mg. She would even be safe if she were below 30 pounds.
Every site that talks about pet poisoning says to call your vet or call one of the two (that I could find) pet poison control hotlines.

So many things in our day to day lives are poisonous to our furry friends. My brother's kitten ate a tiny amount of a lily just before Christmas - and couldn't be saved.
This is terrible! What can a poor dog or cat do when they have a headache?

If she ate it last night, wouldn't have any bad effects shown up by now?

Deb - I don't know how fast liver problems would show up. I called the vet today and they said no problem.

I am glad you looked it up to check, many would assume their animal would be okay and then be surprised when it died. It's always the best idea to never have anything lying around that could harm your pet. Someone else here asked about animal headaches: I always know when Lola has a migraine as she hides under the bed or in the bed and won't come out into the light at all, also her head feels hot to touch. I used to drag her out and take her to the vet for a shot, but it got too expensive, now I just leave her alone for two days then coax her into drinking some water and by day three she is okay and eating again. Thankfully she only has about one headache a year during hayfever season.
River - I called our vet the next day and the tech told me the 167mg is a lower dose than they would give a dog her weight anyway. So all OK.
