Well I may be gone for a little bit. Right now I'm on Claudia's computer because mine is fighting me to the Nth degree. I power down, power up, logon, and 60 to 90 seconds later it freezes and nothing gets it out of the freeze except a power down. 60 to 90 seconds isn't very long to analyze something.
So it may be time to get another computer. Mine is 10 years old with a forced Windows 11 on it. I hesitate to reload windows from scratch because I have so much stuff I don't want to lose. Backup? It wouldn't load it. It froze. Anything I'm trying just freezes after 90 seconds.
Some of the things I try that should work come back as failed. I don't know how long this will take. One day I'll be back.
I'll try and check in on people from Claudia's computer but it's a floor away and on the other side of the house. If you don't hear from me again, send someone to check in my basement.

I hope all goes well with a new computer and stuff is easily transferred.
Sounds like it's time for you to upgrade to an iMac. Good luck, whichever way you jump.
Or Linux
I have to get my old computer working so I can transfer files.
hmmmmmm
I'm not comfortable with linux. I used Unix at the phone company so I'm familiar with the commands. But I don't know if I want to go back to that. (we used to FTP anonymous into all the universities to get programs.)
They add a bazillion features that most people will never use or even know about.
Oh I get this. Struggling with it myself. I don't want to see you on Dateline or the news about an old guy dying his basement from sheer frustration!
There are people with super powers who can retrieve data etc from "dead" computers and transfer to a new one.
UGH. Sorry, Mike. I understand. Computer problems are the absolute worst. I'd rather deal with death or taxes. And if it's my own death, I won't have to worry about computer problems any more. Hope you find a remedy soon.
We'll be here when you return and I had to update my aging Computer and am glad that I did, they've improved them so much in a decade.
I have been out of town for awhile and return to this oh so sad news. I hope it gets sorted soon.
