1443 - Medical experiments

I just read another story about how being in a hospital is more dangerous than driving a car. Then Bandit sent me a story about our medical research system of old. How old? 40 to 80 years ago. Not that old really. But they were doing some stuff right out of the middle ages. Here's a snippet from the article.

Many prominent researchers felt it was legitimate to experiment on people who did not have full rights in society — people like prisoners, mental patients, poor blacks. It was an attitude in some ways similar to that of Nazi doctors experimenting on Jews.

And here's something that's not in the article. Seems that St. Louis was part of a biological test in the 1950's. The tests were in an area where I lived. Here's a snippet from a declassified document (page 20).

Explosive munition tests with pathogens were begun in 1949. In 1950, the
first open air tests with biological simulants were conducted in various
locales, such as off the coast of Norfolk, Virginia. This would be
followed by limited zinc cadmium sulfide dispersal tests in
Minneapolis, Minnesota and St. Louis, Missouri, in 1953 and Bacilllus
subtilli (variant njgr) in the New York City Subway system in 1966.
